  • Quite the opposite! When using credit cards responsibly, your credit score will increase over time. You may notice a small dip in your credit score for the first month after opening a new account, but in the long run your score will continue to increase.

  • The sign up bonus on a good travel rewards credit card heavily outweighs the first year annual fee. For example, why would you not want over $1,000 of travel for a $95 annual fee?

  • You ALWAYS want to keep your account open for more than the first year. But you have a few options once you hit the one year mark:

    1. If you like the card and want to keep using it to earn points or miles, or to take advantage of the credit card benefits, then keep it!

    2. If you want, or need, to keep the account around to build better credit history but do not want to pay the annual fee each year, consider downgrading to a free version of the card.

    3. Cancel the card! After the one year mark comes and goes, you can cancel the account and avoid paying another annual fee. Sometimes, you will be offered a retention bonus or waived annual fee.

  • Not at all! While the fastest way to earn points and miles is by opening new accounts, you can go at your own pace.

    The smartest travelers only have 1 or 2 cards in their wallet at a time and our followers with really busy lives can get $1,000+ in free travel with just a couple cards per year.

    Lastly, a lot of people keep 1 or 2 of their favorite cards to spend on while not working on a new sign up bonus.

  • While it might feel like an overbearing amount of information, we have done all the hard work for you! If you like doing research then you will have fun learning about all the ins and outs. However, if you are too busy or don't know where to get started, follow us and take our recommendations for the best cards!

  • Like the last question, how much time you want to invest is up to you. However, once most followers learn the basics, it is easy to keep going and does not require a lot of time. Follow our best practices and take advantage of the tools we have found to help you on your way!

  • It is best to wait at least 90 days between applying for new cards. This will increase your chance for approval and keep your credit score healthy. At minimum, you want to wait at least 30 days between opening new credit accounts.
